Beginnings ~ Shape Stories
Seeing and Creating Shapes
Welcome to A Joyful Mark, an online art studio for children!
Children's art begins with lines; first scribbles, then lines that form figures and objects, then join together to make shapes. Shape Stories, the second course in my online studio is all about seeing, imagining and creating shapes. With a little encouragement and inspiration we learn to look at the world in new ways.
Throughout the courses, God's design will be our inspiration through a variety of prompts such as natural objects, Bible stories, songs and poems. At the end of this course the child will have gained new ways of expressing themselves through art.
Learning through playful exploration is what we always do here, focusing on the process of discovery more than a product. Enjoy making joyful marks!

Jesus follower, mom, wife, grandmother, sister, artist and teacher... I love color, texture, painting, drawing, weaving & mixed media fiber art.
The name A Joyful Mark was inspired by Psalm 100:1, "Make a joyful noise to the LORD all the earth!" and Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord always...". I make art to reflect the light & joy of the Lord and create unique experiences that spark imagination and faith as I weave creativity and God's story into my teaching.
I dreamed as a college student about creating an art studio where children could be free to explore art media and techniques and learn to express themselves in a stimulating and encouraging environment. That dream came true as I opened my art studio to children of all ages for over 25 years.
I've taught art in a variety of settings; private studio, public school, community college and summer art camp. My passion to nurture a child's creativity was reignited with the birth of my grandchildren and in my travels with an international ministry serving children living in poverty. I'm reminded again and again that all of us, from every place on earth, are born with creative spirits, a gift from God. We often lose that creativity as we grow up, but it doesn't have to be that way!
Thanks for the opportunity to join you in keeping the creative spirit thriving!
Blessings and Joy!
